This site consists of my thoughts about the A-League, the Socceroos and football in Australia from a long term fans point of view. While “New Football” is here, and here to stay, its growing pains are visible to all.
Davidde Corran hits the nail on the head.
Demetriou is very passionate and knowledgeable about the game he administers. One of the questions I submitted to the FFDU Fan Forum was along those lines, asking of Buckley’s passion for football.
Buckley doesn’t have the equivalent level of passion for or knowledge of the game that Demetriou does.
Demetriou goes out to bat for his sport at every opportunity and defends it strongly. We’re yet to see that from Buckley and I’m not sure we ever will. The game in the country needs strong leadership. If football was being run by someone like Demetriou would we be in the situation we are now? I think not.
Andrew Demetriou:
“These are very bold and ambitious targets but given the growth of our game over the past five years we believe that one million participants and one million AFL club members can be achieved by 2016,”
A very lofty goal from the AFL. What’s the FFA’s goal for 2016? How about their goal for 2012?
Fantastic interview with Andrew Jennings, the long time BBC investigative reporter who has done four programs outing FIFA’s corruption.
Andrew Jennings:
They’re furious in America. You guys are furious. You got totally ripped off and deluded in Australia. The Dutch are also angry. You start having an interdepartmental, intergovernmental congress and FIFA will collapse, because the sponsors will say “ah-ah”, as they said to the international Olympic committee and clean-up time will come.
So what you have to do is Mr Arbib, your Sports Minister, should be on the phone tomorrow to the British sports minister, Robertson. I don’t know who does the job in Washington, but there’ll be somebody, or somebody in the Senate.
I do wonder what it will take for something like that to happen. In all seriousness, what’s the worst that could happen if they did?
Too early to predict a seventh CEO after seven seasons announcement?
The A-League continues to mature on the park. Fitness, mental toughness and tactical theory followed by it’s implementation is definitely a move in the right direction. If they get this right over the next five months we will have one more team playing entertaining and hopefully winning football. Also sounds as if they Knights and Jets have merged their colours as well, the rebirth of the “Super Club”.
Sepp Blatter:
“It is a bit strange when the number one association in the world - which is the FA - have two candidates to choose from and they cannot make a decision which one they support. It’s strange.”
What’s worse is that The FA choose to register a protest rather than back a third candidate. There are candidates out there, but they require backing by a federation. Why The FA don’t do this is strange. Why they choose not to back Blatter or Bin Hammam is not.
“Senator Arbib replied to similar questions from Senator Ronaldson on April 15 and is in the process of providing answers to the second (lot of) questions being provided to the Senate. It provides the same information with some further detail regarding the cost of the Bid Book, presentation and other marketing.”
Hopefully this is all made public without the need for a FOIA request. If there is some impropriety, those involved need to be punished.
“Having one state and two A-League clubs pre-empt a truly national cup competition is liable to erode the work that has been done and diminish that essential ingredient [the shock value of David v Goliath clashes].
